The photos below show activities from December through April of 2018.

The central photos are two retiring long-term Superintendents, Dean Watson and Bill Nichols. Dean served the Town of Ward for 34 years prior to his retirement in December. Also retiring in December, Bill Nichols served 41 years as Town of Belfast Highway Superintendent. Bill also had terms as President and Secretary of the New York State Association of Town Superintendents of Highways, Inc.; President of the Association of Towns; and President of the Allegany County Town Highway Superintendents Association. We wish these men a long and happy retirement and hope to see them at future Association events.

The surrounding photo collage includes pictures from:

1.      Our annual meeting during which we collect toys for the Action Angels of Allegany County for Christmas distribution to children within the County. We are proud to say that each of the last three years our contributions have exceeded the previous year’s total.

2.      Bill Nichols’ retirement dinner attended by many Superintendents, local municipal officials, County Legislators, and NYS Senator Cathy Young. Association President Kevin Demick, Town of Angelica, presented Bill with a grandfather clock in recognition of his many years of service to the Town Highway Association and his representation of Allegany County in other State associations.

3.      Our annual gun raffle, held in April, was well attended and we want to thank the participants who contributed money through this event for our Scholarship Fund. The fund supports two college bound students each year entering the fields of engineering or the heavy equipment curriculum at the Alfred State College Wellsville Campus.

Coming events include:

The Cornell Local Roads Highway School, June 4-6, 2018

The ACTHSA annual picnic, June15, 2018

The ACTHSA annual breakfast and golf tournament, July 13, 2018

New Superintendents, the STW Conference and the Cornell Highway School are both legal charges for your attendance as Town officials. The classes held at these events are focused on better management practices and are irreplaceable sources of knowledge! Let your Boards know that you want to attend these events and how important they are in improving your service to the taxpayers of your Town. Hope to see ALL of you there!
